The Truggery
Garden Trug
Garden Trug
Rectangular shape with rounded corners, the shape that is most used and recognised as a 'Sussex Trug'. The traditional shape for farmers and gardeners. Often used as measures in the past, the smallest holds one Imperial Pint and the largest a Bushel (eight Imperial Gallons).
'Strapped Trugs' generally refers to the Half Bushel and Bushel Trugs. These are Garden trugs but instead of feet they have bands of Sweet Chestnut wrapped and fixed around the body giving it extra weight bearing properties. Traditionally used by Sussex and Kentish farmers for harvesting and measuring produce. The curved body allows the trug to be used as a scoop or to tip items into a sack without being impeded by the feet.
If your desired trug is out of stock, please feel free to contact us. We will make every effort to have stock ready as soon as possible, where adequate wood supplies are available.
